French separate the nouns in two different categories: the “noms propres” and the “noms communs”.
They basically all are nouns but aren't the same.
Let's see the differences between them!

1. The “noms communs”
This type of noun indicates pretty much all the nouns. However they have to be a part of the same specie. Generally they are preceded by a determinant and they start with lowercase letter.
Example:
* le chien
*la chaise
*des cookies

2. The “noms propres”
This type of nouns indicates one being or object. They are not followed by a determinant but starts with a capital letter.
Examples:
*Marion
*Jésus Christ
*Paris
*la Tour Eiffel
*la France
*les Français
